About pregnancy and related conditions protected by Title IX

Title IX prohibits the University from discriminating against a student based on pregnancy or related conditions. Title IX also prohibits a school from applying any rule related to a student’s parental, family, or marital status that treats students differently based on their gender.

Under Title IX, schools must offer pregnant students the same benefits they offer to students with other medical conditions, such as illness or injury. One exception to the rule is absences. Under Title IX, universities must excuse absences due to pregnancy and related conditions, regardless of the school’s or course attendance/absence policy.
